My Midlife Crisis
with Neil Litt

THE DAY OF THE LOCUSTS EDITION

The picture on the left? The ciccada who mistook my front door for a tree. There are 40,000 ciccadas per acre. They emerge from the earth every 17 years and create a deafening roar.

Thirty-four years ago, Bob Dylan heard them and was profoundly spooked. You can hear their Princeton descendants on this program. (In fact, they nearly drown me out!) There is also a lot of music, from American pop music in Yiddish to the latest from Bush, Dave Alvin, Ani DiFranco, Patti Smith, and a whole lot more!

This program is dedicated to the memory of Sidney and Joel Shupak, father and son.

Sidney translated American folk and pop tunes into Yiddish and sang them, accompanying himself on the piano.

Joel (pictured here) was also a deeply musical person who selflessly offered his singing to brighten our spirits and lift our hearts.

May their memories be for a blessing.
